We start with a piece of musical quicksilver, the irresistible and joyfully unrestrained overture to Ruslan and Lyudmila by Glinka, which has become his best-known work. That is followed by the romantic, rich, alluring and enduring first violin concerto by Bruch (played by British violinist, Rosa Hartley), which is always near the top of the ClassicFM chart! Finally a new symphony, by English composer and conductor Peter Fender: now dramatic and pungent, now lyrical and transparent, an experience.
Having stepped down from conducting this orchestra in July, I am returing as violin soloist in the Bach double concerto, and as composer.

Peter is taking part in the 2nd Black Sea Conducting Competition.
See below for a report on the competition:
Peter took part in the second Black Sea Conducting Competition in Constanta, Romania, in September this year. There was in international group of partcipants - from the UK, Italy, Japan, Canada, USA, Argentina, Portugal ...!
However Peter has serious doubts about the legitimacy of the competition. A good number of the other competitors felt the same. In addition the quality and method of the judging was very dubious. He left feeling sad and angry that he had spent a week of time and a not inconsiderable amount of money on the event. Both Peter and several other competitors directed concerns to the organisers just after the competition, but have had no reply.
