London Conducting School

The London Conducting School is running a series of online Zoom sessions.

All sessions are on Fridays 7.30-9.30pm (London, UK, GMT+1)
'About the orchestra' sessions are with members of the world-class Philharmonia Orchestra, London

2021

5 Feb: Score analysis (Beethoven 9)

19 Feb: Video analysis (Beethoven 9)

5 Mar: From analysis to technique (Beethoven 9 ++)

19 Mar: About the orchestra - Trumpet

NB1: If you would like to attend but can't do so, please pay as normal and send a message to request a copy of the recording, which will be available a few days after each session.

NB2: Online content to complement recordings (pictures, musical examples etc) is available here

Two initial sessions will work on analysis - analysis of the score (including how to score read and memorisation), and then on using the vast video resources available online for learning purposes.  A third session will then realate how to go from analysis to an effective technique, pulling together elements from the first two sessions.  Finally, after the successful sessions about instruments of the orchestra with members of London's world-class Philharmonia Orchestra we continue with the trumpet - invaluable stuff even for those who know the instrument well!  In all sessions there will be the opportunity to ask questions.

No preparation in advance in essential, but you will get more out of it if you can do some.  For the work-specific sessions doing some prior listening and/or score study would be useful.

An individual session costs £17; any 2 sessions £33, all 4 £64).  Use the PayPal button below to make your choice and pay the relevant amount (if you choose 2 sessions I will contact you to check which ones you want to attend). You don't need a PayPal account to do this. The day before each session you will receive an email with a Zoom link (check your Junk mailbox if necessary). You just need to click that link at the time of the session and follow any instructions. Any other technical things will be explained at the start of each session.

For the sessions on a particular piece please have a score to hand.

NB: On Tuesday evenings I also run sessions of a more general musical nature, not specifically about conducting. Take the opportunity to learn more about repertoire new and old!  Details here: www.peterfender.co.uk/basic-page/masterworks-unwrapped

If you've not used Zoom before click the link 5/10 minutes before the session start time as your computer (or tablet or phone) will need a little time to install the software to enable you to join (follow the prompts that you get to effect that installation).  Finally you will receive the message 'Please wait, the meeting host will let you in soon'. Please note that you don't need to sign up for a Zoom account.
